The End of the School Year is a Lot — And That’s Okay.

June can feel like a finish line — but instead of a victory lap, many of us are crawling to the end. Between final projects, exams, graduation events, packed spring sports, changing routines, and summer plans, it’s not just kids who feel the pressure. Parents are juggling more logistics than usual, and for some families, transitions can stir up big emotions.

You might notice more meltdowns, resistance, sleep issues, or quiet withdrawal. These can be signs of stress — not just in your children, but also in you. And that’s normal. The end of the school year is a time of change, and change — even good change — can be hard.

Here are a few things we’ve seen help:

  • Pause and acknowledge it’s a lot. It’s okay to say “this is overwhelming” — out loud, to your partner, your friend, your kids, or yourself. Naming it takes the edge off and helps others feel less alone in it too.
  • Lower the bar. Now isn’t the time for perfection. Some structure might slide. Some dinners might be cereal. Some kids might miss an assignment or two. That’s okay. The goal is to land the plane, not polish the windows mid-flight.
  • Ask how they’re doing — and listen. Even short check-ins with kids, teens, or partners can open space for sharing. You don’t need to fix it. Just listen with presence and empathy.
  • Take care of yourself too. If you’re exhausted or short-tempered, it doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong — it likely means you need care, too. You can’t pour from an empty cup, and it’s not selfish to ask for support.

At Back in Motion Wellness, we understand that health isn’t just physical. That’s why we’ve added counselling services to our team — to support you and your family not just when there’s a crisis, but when life simply feels heavy.

If this season feels overwhelming — for you, your child, or your family — we’re here. Our Registered Counsellor can provide a safe, non-judgmental space to talk things through and find a path forward.

You don’t have to do it all alone.
