Athletic Therapy is a health care profession that specializes in the prevention, assessment and care of musculoskeletal disorders (muscles, bones, joints) especially as they relate to athletics and the pursuit of physical activity to the general public

What is the difference between Athletic Therapy and Physiotherapy?

The main difference between athletic therapy vs physiotherapy has to do with the scope of practice. Both AT and PT will address a variety of the same ailments, including:

• Musculoskeletal (muscle, joints, tendons) injury recovery and prevention
• Muscle/joint pain
• Limited mobility
• Nerve impingement
• Concussion rehab

Physiotherapist are also skilled at treating cardiovascular health issues such as heart attack, stroke, arrhythmia, etc, as well as neurological impairments suc has MS, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, etc that can affect movement.

What is involved in an Athletic Therapy appointment?

Clients will have one-on-one care with the practitioner the whole treatment. They will perform a blend of hands on treatment to release the tension in the muscles, tendons and/or bones, and demonstrate suitable exercise rehab associated with the area of concern. This allows clients to continue their care at home and during their treatment session.
